Esports
Esports, the world of competitive video gaming, has grown from a niche hobby into a global industry worth billions of pounds annually. It encompasses professional gaming tournaments, streaming platforms, content creation, team management, event production, sponsorship, broadcasting and a growing ecosystem of support roles that mirror those found in traditional sports. As the industry has professionalised, so has the demand for people who understand it from the inside, combining practical skills in digital broadcasting, content creation and event management with business and marketing knowledge.
At the University of Suffolk, this part-time programme places you at the centre of the esports world, combining industry knowledge with hands-on practical experience. The part-time mode allows you to develop your skills and understanding while continuing to engage with esports as a player, content creator or community participant outside your studies. You will explore the business models that underpin the industry, the production and broadcasting skills needed to create and distribute esports content, the marketing and audience development strategies that organisations use to build communities, and the event management competences involved in staging tournaments and live events.
Critical understanding of how the industry is structured and how it is changing is woven throughout.
You will develop practical skills in content creation, digital broadcasting and event production alongside analytical and business knowledge that prepares you for professional roles. The programme recognises that esports is both a creative and a commercial field, and it equips you to work across both dimensions.
Graduates move into esports organisations, streaming platforms, event management companies, sports marketing agencies, broadcasting roles, content creation and community management. Many of the skills the degree develops, particularly in digital content, live production and audience engagement, are also valued in the broader sports, media and entertainment industries.
