English Language

The three-year full-time English Language programme at the University of Salford gives you a thorough grounding in linguistics and language studies. You will explore the structure of language at phonological, grammatical, and semantic levels, and study how language functions in social contexts, from conversation and discourse to gender, power, and identity. You will examine language acquisition, language variation across regions and social groups, and the ways in which language in public life, including political speech, media, and advertising, constructs meaning and influences attitudes.
