About this course

Engineering with business is a degree designed for people who want to operate at the intersection of technical and commercial life, developing the analytical engineering mindset alongside the management, financial and entrepreneurial skills that allow engineers to lead, own and grow organisations. Modern engineering projects require not just technical excellence but effective project management, cost control, business model development and strategic thinking, and this combination equips you to contribute across all of those dimensions.

At Brunel University London this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year and a placement year, giving you both the scientific and mathematical grounding you need and direct professional experience in an engineering and business environment. You will develop general scientific and mathematical knowledge alongside an understanding of engineering designs and systems, combined with key management skills, financial management, accounting, business model development and entrepreneurship. The combination prepares you for roles that require you to speak both engineering and commercial languages fluently.

Graduates of engineering with business are valued by companies that need engineers who can manage projects, lead teams, understand costs and develop the business case for technical innovation. Roles include project manager, commercial engineer, engineering manager, business development manager and technical consultant. Many graduates move into senior leadership positions in engineering companies, infrastructure businesses and technology firms, where the combination of technical understanding and commercial capability is particularly scarce and valuable.

Postgraduate study in engineering management, business administration or a specialist engineering discipline is a natural further route.

The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” local co…
