About this course

Engineering is a discipline that transforms scientific understanding into practical solutions, designing the systems, structures, and processes that society depends on. From civil infrastructure and energy systems to manufacturing and digital technology, engineers apply mathematical rigour and creative problem-solving to challenges that matter. A year in industry, embedded in the degree, adds a dimension of real professional practice that cannot be replicated in a university setting.

At the University of East Anglia this four-year full-time programme integrates a year in industry as part of the degree. You will spend a full year working for an engineering employer, applying and developing the technical skills you have built in your academic study, encountering real engineering problems and professional environments, and building the networks and professional identity that make the transition from student to graduate engineer much smoother. The academic content covers the core of engineering science, including mathematics, mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, electrical principles, and design, developing both the theoretical foundations and the practical approach that employers expect.

UEA's engineering programme is distinctive in being situated within a broad research university, giving you access to interdisciplinary perspectives alongside core engineering content. The year in industry is carefully supported and integrated, with academic supervision and a structured approach to connecting your professional experience back to your studies.
