About this course

Engineering is the discipline that applies scientific knowledge and mathematical reasoning to the design, creation, and improvement of the systems, structures, and machines on which modern life depends. It is also a fundamentally problem-solving activity: engineers are presented with complex constraints, whether material, financial, social, or environmental, and must find creative, rigorous, and practical solutions to them. Engineering touches almost every aspect of contemporary life, from the infrastructure that moves water, energy, and people to the devices and digital systems that process information and connect people across the world.

At the University of East Anglia, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing an accessible route into engineering study for students whose prior qualifications require additional mathematical and scientific preparation, or who come from backgrounds where engineering has not been a clear path. The foundation year builds the core skills needed to engage fully with engineering at degree level. You will then develop a broad engineering foundation, engaging with the principles of design, analysis, and manufacture that underpin engineering practice across disciplines.
