About this course

Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest of human endeavours, encompassing the creative application of scientific and mathematical principles to design, build, and maintain the systems and structures that society depends on. From aerospace and automotive engineering to energy, civil infrastructure, and biomedical technology, engineers work across virtually every sector of the economy, solving problems that matter and creating solutions that endure. The discipline requires intellectual rigour, creative problem-solving, the ability to work in teams, and the practical judgement to turn ideas into things that actually work in the real world.

At the University of Aberdeen, the five-year full-time MEng Engineering degree provides a broad and deep preparation for professional engineering practice. You will study engineering principles that span multiple disciplines, developing the flexibility and cross-disciplinary understanding that distinguishes engineers who can work at the boundaries of complex problems. A year abroad is incorporated into the programme, giving you an international perspective on engineering challenges and practice that is increasingly valued by employers in global industries.

Aberdeen's strong connections with the energy sector, particularly oil, gas, and the growing renewables industry in north-east Scotland, give the programme a particular applied relevance.

Engineering graduates from an MEng programme are well placed for Chartered Engineer status through the relevant professional bodies, and for careers across the full breadth of the engineering sector. Aerospace, automotive, energy, infrastructure, defence, and advanced manufacturing are among the largest employers. The analytical, design, and project management skills the degree develops are also valued in technology consulting, entrepreneurship, and roles that bridge engineering and business.

For those drawn to research, the MEng provides an excellent foundation for doctoral study in engineering or applied science. The typical entry tariff is 152 points.

Genuinely worthwhile
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city with plenty t…

A great decision
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant stude…
