About this course

Electronic engineering is the discipline responsible for the devices and systems that have transformed everyday life: from the microchips inside smartphones and the sensors in medical equipment to the control systems in electric vehicles and the circuitry behind satellite communications. It encompasses circuit design, signal processing, embedded systems, digital electronics, power electronics, and the development of the hardware that software runs on. At the University of Nottingham, one of the UK's leading engineering research universities, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year designed for students who have the aptitude and motivation to study electronic engineering at a research-intensive university but whose prior qualifications may require a structured year of preparation. The foundation year builds the mathematical and scientific grounding that the BEng demands before you progress to the main programme. The main degree covers the core areas of electronic engineering and includes a year in industry, in which you spend a full year working as an engineer in a professional organisation before returning for your final year.
