About this course

Electronic engineering is the discipline responsible for the design and development of the electronic systems and devices that underpin modern technology. From the semiconductors at the heart of computing and smartphones to the communications systems that carry data across the globe, the medical devices that diagnose and treat disease, and the power electronics that drive electric vehicles and renewable energy systems, electronic engineering is present in almost every dimension of modern life. It is both a technical and a creative discipline, combining mathematical rigour with the practical challenge of designing systems that work reliably in the real world.

At the University of Southampton, this full-time, three-year degree develops the knowledge and skills needed for a career as an incorporated electronic engineer. You will engage with the theory and practice of electronic circuits, signals and systems, electromagnetics, and digital electronics, building both the analytical foundations and the practical design skills that professional electronic engineering demands.
