Electronic engineering and computer systems addresses the hardware and software foundations of the digital world. At the University of Huddersfield this four-year programme includes a foundation year that builds the mathematical and physical sciences grounding you need before the engineering degree begins. The foundation year makes the programme accessible to students who have the aptitude for engineering but may not have the specific A-level combination that direct entry requires. Once you progress into the degree you will cover circuit design, digital systems, signal processing, embedded systems, microcontrollers, software engineering, network systems and engineering management, with substantial laboratory and project work throughout.
A sandwich year is built into the programme, giving you a full year of industrial experience alongside your studies, with further work placement also incorporated. The combination of a well-structured entry pathway and significant industry experience is particularly practical.
Graduates go on to work in electronics design, embedded systems development, systems integration, telecommunications, aerospace, automotive electronics, consumer electronics, defence and the technology industry broadly.
