About this course

Electronic engineering is the discipline concerned with the design, development and testing of devices, systems and software that process, communicate or store electrical signals. It encompasses analogue and digital circuits, signal processing, power electronics, semiconductor devices, embedded systems, telecommunications and control systems, and increasingly it engages with quantum devices, nanotechnology and sustainable energy systems. As the world depends ever more heavily on electronic infrastructure, the engineer's ability to design robust, efficient and innovative electronic systems is central to technological progress.

At the University of Southampton, this four-year full-time integrated masters degree combines foundational electronic engineering training with advanced study in areas including quantum devices, nanotechnology, sustainable energy and data security. You will design, build and test your own electronic systems, including a substantial project that addresses a real-life engineering problem. The integrated masters format means that you graduate at masters level, providing deeper technical training than a standard bachelor's degree and stronger preparation for research and advanced professional roles.

The sandwich year in professional placement and a work placement give you direct industry experience that is highly valued by employers. Professional registration pathways are available through the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
