About this course

Electronic and information engineering is a discipline that spans the design of physical electronic systems and the information processing and communication systems that depend on them. Electronics provides the hardware layer, the circuits, sensors, signal processors, and power systems that make modern devices and infrastructure work. Information engineering adds the computational and communicative dimension, encompassing data transmission, communication networks, machine learning, and the software and algorithms that make complex systems intelligent.

Together they cover the engineering foundations of the digital world.

At Imperial College, one of the world's leading science and engineering universities, this four-year programme combines electronics with computer science and information engineering, drawing on the exceptional depth and breadth of Imperial's academic resources. You will study modules from the Department of Computing alongside core electronic and information engineering content, and your projects and coursework will be drawn from current research, giving you direct engagement with the problems that are shaping the field today. The programme is designed to produce engineers who are both technically excellent and creatively ambitious, ready to work at the frontier of a rapidly evolving industry.

Graduates from electronic and information engineering at Imperial are among the most sought-after in the technology and engineering sectors. Careers in semiconductor design, communications engineering, machine learning, robotics, financial technology, defence, aerospace, and software engineering are all natural destinations. Imperial's alumni network and research reputation mean that graduates have exceptional access to opportunities in industry and academia.

Many continue to postgraduate study or doctoral research at Imperial or other leading institutions, contributing to advances in the field that will shape the technology landscape of the coming decades.
