About this course

Electronic and electrical engineering sits at the foundation of the modern technological world, encompassing the design of circuits and electronic systems, the generation and distribution of electrical power, the development of communications and signal processing technologies, and the engineering of the control and sensor systems that make machines intelligent and responsive. It is a discipline whose graduates contribute to virtually every sector of the modern economy, from consumer electronics, telecommunications and computing through to renewable energy, aerospace, automotive and biomedical engineering.

At University College London this four-year programme includes an integrated foundation year designed for students who do not meet the standard entry requirements for UCL's undergraduate engineering degrees but have the potential and motivation to succeed in engineering study. The foundation year develops your confidence, academic skills and subject-specific knowledge, preparing you to take full advantage of one of the world's leading engineering programmes. You will go on to develop the analytical, design and experimental skills that professional electronic and electrical engineering demands.

Electronic and electrical engineering graduates from UCL work across the full range of engineering industries, including semiconductor design, telecommunications, power systems, aerospace, defence, medical devices, consumer electronics and the growing range of technology companies developing AI-embedded products and systems. Many graduates pursue chartered engineer status through relevant professional bodies, which marks an important milestone in a long-term engineering career. Others move into research and development, technology entrepreneurship, systems integration, technical consultancy or postgraduate study in specialist areas such as power electronics, communications engineering, machine learning or biomedical engineering.
