About this course

Electronic and electrical engineering is the discipline behind the technologies that define contemporary life. Global communications networks, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, medical devices and computing infrastructure all depend on the principles and practices this field develops. Electrical engineering deals with the generation, transmission and use of electrical power, while electronics is concerned with the design of circuits and systems that process and control signals.

Together they form a discipline of enormous practical importance and constant innovation.

At Swansea, this four-year programme with a year abroad gives you a thorough grounding in both the theoretical principles and the practical skills of electronic and electrical engineering. You will study circuit theory, electromagnetism, signal processing, control systems, power electronics and digital systems, developing both analytical understanding and the ability to design and build working systems. Mathematics and physics underpin the programme, and you will develop strong computational skills alongside your engineering knowledge.

The year abroad offers the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country, broadening your perspective on how engineering is practised internationally and giving you cultural and professional experience that sets you apart.

Electronic and electrical engineering graduates are among the most sought-after in the UK jobs market. Careers span telecommunications, power generation and distribution, automotive and aerospace engineering, semiconductor design, defence technology, consumer electronics and renewable energy.
