About this course

Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering is a discipline that addresses the hardware and software infrastructure that underlies nearly every aspect of modern technology, from power distribution systems and manufacturing plants to connected devices, artificial intelligence applications and network infrastructure. It combines expertise in electronics, digital systems, computer hardware, embedded computing, software engineering and networking to develop practitioners who can design, build and maintain the complex technological systems that the modern economy depends on.

At London South Bank University this three-year full-time degree includes a foundation year, which extends the programme to allow you to build the mathematical, scientific and engineering foundations you need before entering the main curriculum. The course also incorporates a sandwich year and work placement opportunities, giving you real professional experience in engineering or technology environments during your degree. You will explore a wide range of computer hardware and software engineering, electronics, digital systems, embedded systems, computer and network design, artificial intelligence, security and Internet of Things applications, developing broad and relevant technical competence.

Graduates from Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering degrees are in strong demand across a wide range of technology-intensive industries. Many find roles in electronics design, embedded systems engineering, network engineering, cybersecurity, software development, systems integration and telecommunications. Others work in the IoT sector, in digital manufacturing, defence, aerospace, automotive engineering and the energy sector.

The combination of hardware and software knowledge the degree develops is particularly valuable in an era when the distinction between them is increasingly blurred. Postgraduate study in electronic engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity or systems engineering is an option for those wishing to develop specialist expertise.

The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” good transport links make it…
