About this course

Electronic and computer engineering brings together two disciplines that have become inseparable in modern technology. Electronics provides the physical foundation, the circuits, sensors, processors and communication systems that make digital technology possible, while computer engineering focuses on the design and integration of hardware and software systems. Together, they equip you to understand and create the devices and systems that drive everything from consumer electronics and communications infrastructure to medical technology and autonomous vehicles.

At the University of Kent, this four-year full-time BEng programme is designed to immerse you in both fields, giving you the knowledge to understand, design and create the systems of the future. The course includes a year in industry, which gives you substantial professional experience before you complete your degree. You will study electronics, digital systems, computer architecture, signal processing, embedded systems and software engineering, building a skill set that spans the boundary between hardware and software.

The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points.

Graduates from electronic and computer engineering programmes are in demand across a wide range of sectors. Telecommunications, semiconductor design, aerospace and defence, consumer electronics, automotive systems, medical devices and financial technology all require engineers who can work across the hardware and software interface. Roles in embedded systems development, FPGA design, systems integration, test engineering, electronics design and software development are all accessible to graduates of this programme.
