Electro-Mechanical Engineering with Foundation Year

Electro-mechanical engineering addresses the integration of electrical and mechanical systems that characterises so much of modern engineering practice. Very few significant engineering products are purely mechanical or purely electrical: electric motors depend on mechanical design, control systems regulate physical processes, robots integrate software, electronics, and mechanisms, and the entire domain of mechatronics, including automotive engineering, robotics, aerospace, and manufacturing automation, depends on engineers who can think across both disciplines. This programme prepares you to be one of those engineers.

At Coventry University, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year that provides the mathematical and scientific foundations needed before entering the main engineering curriculum. This makes the programme accessible to students who have the motivation and aptitude for engineering but need a more gradual entry into higher education. The programme aims to provide you with a solid grounding for building a career in the engineering sector, covering the principles of electrical engineering alongside mechanical engineering, with particular emphasis on their integration in real systems.

The course includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement, giving you direct professional experience in engineering environments before you graduate. The typical entry tariff is 56 UCAS points.

Graduates from electro-mechanical engineering programmes go on to work in manufacturing, automation, robotics, automotive, aerospace, energy, and many other engineering sectors, in roles including design engineer, systems engineer, maintenance engineer, and project manager. Further study at master's level in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechatronics is available for those who wish to deepen their technical expertise or move toward chartered engineer status.
