About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering is the discipline that underlies the generation, distribution, and application of electrical power, and the design of the electronic systems through which modern technology operates. From power grids and electric vehicles to smartphones, medical instruments, communications networks, and industrial automation, the work of electrical and electronic engineers is woven into almost every aspect of modern life. The discipline combines rigorous applied mathematics with circuit theory, systems analysis, and the practical skills of engineering design.

At the University of Liverpool this four-year, full-time MEng programme includes a year in industry, giving you direct professional experience in engineering before you complete your degree. The MEng level allows you to study your areas of interest in greater depth than an undergraduate BEng, and also gives you the time to broaden your knowledge of both electrical and electronic engineering alongside other subjects including management. You will cover core areas including circuit analysis, electromagnetics, power systems, signal processing, control systems, and communications, developing both theoretical understanding and engineering design skills.

The year in industry connects this academic formation to the realities of professional engineering practice in sectors that range from energy and utilities to defence, telecommunications, and consumer technology.

Graduates with a MEng in electrical and electronic engineering are well placed for a wide range of engineering careers. Others enter telecommunications, defence, aerospace, semiconductor design, consumer electronics, or the automotive and rail industries.
