About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering is the discipline that makes the modern world function. From the electricity grid and renewable energy systems to mobile communications, medical devices and autonomous vehicles, the technologies that define contemporary life are built on the principles this discipline develops and applies. Electrical engineering deals with power generation, distribution and conversion; electronic engineering focuses on circuits, signals, devices and embedded systems that control and process information.

Together they form a discipline of exceptional breadth and commercial importance.

At the University of East Anglia, this four-year full-time programme incorporates a year working in industry, giving you direct professional experience within an engineering organisation alongside your academic study. You will cover circuit theory, signals and systems, digital and analogue electronics, power electronics, control engineering, microprocessors, telecommunications and software for embedded systems. Laboratory work is central to the degree, developing your practical skills and your ability to move between theoretical understanding and real-world application.

The industrial year deepens that practical competence and gives you a network of professional contacts that will be valuable as you enter the employment market.

Graduates move into engineering roles across a wide range of industries. Renewable energy, power systems, telecommunications, defence, aerospace, automotive engineering, consumer electronics, healthcare technology and robotics all offer substantial opportunities.
