About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering sits at the heart of the modern world. Power generation and distribution, communications networks, computing hardware, medical devices, transport systems, and consumer electronics all depend on the principles this discipline develops. It is a field that combines deep mathematical foundations with practical ingenuity, asking both how electromagnetic phenomena work at a fundamental level and how those phenomena can be harnessed to solve real engineering problems.

This three-year full-time programme at the University of Liverpool includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at an international partner institution and to experience engineering education in a different country. The international exposure this provides is increasingly valued by employers in an engineering sector that operates globally. Liverpool's engineering department has strong research and industry connections, and the programme covers the core areas of the discipline alongside specialist topics that reflect current developments in the field.

You will develop skills in circuit analysis, signal processing, control systems, power electronics, digital systems, and programming, alongside a mathematical foundation in the calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations that underpin much of engineering analysis. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study, either in electrical engineering or in adjacent fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, or communications engineering.
