About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering is concerned with the generation, transmission, and use of electrical energy and the design of the electronic systems that underpin modern technology. The field spans an extraordinary range of applications, from power grids and renewable energy systems to microprocessors, medical devices, communications networks, and autonomous vehicles. Engineers in this discipline work at the boundary of physics, mathematics, and computing, and they apply rigorous analytical thinking to the design and development of systems that have become fundamental to contemporary life.

At the University of Hull, the BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering runs over four years full-time and provides a thorough grounding in both the theory and practice of the discipline. You will study electronics, circuit analysis, electromagnetics, signals and systems, control engineering, and power engineering, developing analytical and problem-solving skills alongside practical laboratory and design competencies. The four-year structure allows for greater depth and breadth than a three-year degree, and Hull's engineering programmes are connected to the regional industrial economy, including the energy sector in the Humber estuary, one of the UK's most significant areas for offshore wind.
