About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering is the discipline at the heart of the technological transformations reshaping the modern world. From the revolution in electric vehicles and the expansion of renewable energy to the development of microchips, communications systems, and smart devices, electrical and electronic engineers are designing and building the infrastructure and products on which the future depends. The field combines the study of electrical energy and its management with the design of electronic circuits, control systems, and the embedded technologies that make modern devices intelligent and connected.

At Edge Hill University, this three-year full-time programme prepares you for a career at the cutting edge of global innovation. A sandwich year, year abroad, and work placement opportunities are all available, giving you the chance to gain professional experience in industry and to broaden your perspective through international study before you graduate. You will study the core principles of electrical and electronic engineering, including circuit analysis, electromagnetics, power systems, signal processing, digital electronics, and control engineering, developing the theoretical understanding that underpins the field alongside the practical skills needed to design, build, and test real systems.

The programme develops your problem-solving abilities and your capacity to work on complex engineering challenges both independently and as part of a team.

Graduates go on to careers in power engineering, electronics design, automotive and aerospace systems, telecommunications, energy, manufacturing, and the technology sector. The field offers strong and growing employment prospects across the UK and internationally, driven by the electrification of transport, the build-out of renewable energy infrastructure, and the relentless advance of digital technology. Many graduates pursue professional engineering registration, building towards chartered status, and postgraduate study in specialist areas of electrical or electronic engineering is a route for those who wish to develop deeper technical expertise.

Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” the city is a …
