About this course

Electrical and electronic engineering is a discipline concerned with the design, analysis and application of systems that generate, control and transmit electrical energy and process electronic signals. It underpins the power grid, communications networks, consumer electronics, medical devices, transportation systems and the digital infrastructure of modern life. It is a field that combines rigorous mathematical and physical understanding with practical design and problem-solving capability, producing graduates who can work across a wide range of technology sectors.

At Aston University, which has a strong tradition of industry-engaged engineering education, this three-year full-time programme includes both a sandwich year for extended professional placement and a year abroad, as well as work placement experience built into the degree. This combination of professional and international exposure is unusually generous, and it means that graduates enter the job market with both academic knowledge and substantial demonstrated professional experience. You will study circuit analysis, signal processing, electronics, power systems, control theory, embedded systems, electromagnetic theory and the mathematical methods needed to work rigorously with these areas.

Electrical and electronic engineers are consistently in strong demand across a wide range of industries. Power generation and transmission, automotive and aerospace technology, telecommunications, semiconductor manufacturing, medical devices, consumer electronics, defence and computing all recruit actively from this discipline.
