Economics is the study of how individuals, firms, and governments make choices when resources are limited, and of the consequences of those choices for markets, incomes, and wellbeing. It develops analytical rigour, quantitative skill, and an understanding of how incentives shape behaviour at every level of society, from household budgeting to international trade and monetary policy. For students who want to understand the forces shaping the modern world and develop the tools to influence or respond to them, economics provides an exceptionally strong foundation.

At the University of Hull, the emphasis is on economics that has genuine use in the real world.
