Early Years and Education

Early years and education is a field concerned with child development, learning, and the pedagogical practices that support young children in the earliest and most formative years of their lives. This programme at Anglia Ruskin is offered part time and through distance learning, making it accessible to those who are already working in early years or education settings and wish to formalise and develop their knowledge without leaving employment. You will study child development, early learning environments, observation and assessment, inclusive practice, and the policy frameworks that shape early years provision in the UK. Distance learning means you can engage with course materials and academic support flexibly, while often applying your learning directly in your professional context, which tends to deepen understanding in ways that purely campus-based study sometimes cannot.

Graduates move into qualified roles in early years settings, nurseries, children's centres, primary schools, and family support services, as well as into leadership and management positions within early years organisations. The qualification is also relevant to roles in health visiting, social work support, and the voluntary sector. Further study in early childhood education, primary education, social work, or educational leadership is a natural extension for those who wish to develop specialist expertise or pursue more senior professional roles.
