Drama and History
Drama and history is a combination that rewards students who are passionate about both the performing arts and the serious study of the past. Drama as an academic and practical discipline explores performance as a cultural and social practice, asking how theatre has functioned across different historical periods and cultures and developing your skills in making and analysing performance. History develops the ability to investigate the past through its evidence, to understand how events unfolded and why, and to situate drama and performance within the social, political, and material conditions that produced them.

This four-year, full-time programme at Liverpool Hope includes a foundation year, a placement year, and a year abroad, giving you a full four years of development that spans academic study, professional experience, and international engagement. The drama strand is rooted in Liverpool, a city with a vital theatrical tradition, and develops both your creative and critical abilities. The history strand engages with the origins of drama as well as the broader sweep of historical inquiry, connecting performance history to the wider forces that have shaped society.
The placement year and year abroad add practical and international dimensions that enrich both strands.
Graduates pursue careers across the performing arts and the cultural sector, as well as in education, heritage, and the broader creative industries. Drama graduates work as performers, directors, theatre makers, arts educators, and in arts administration and development. History graduates move into teaching, heritage, research, journalism, policy, and a wide range of analytical and communicative roles.
