About this course

Digital media and information studies explores the creation, use, and impact of digital content and information in the arts, humanities, and society at large. It brings a human perspective to the issues of the digital age: how information is produced and shared, how digital culture shapes identity and community, how archives and collections are managed in an era of perpetual technological change, and what the implications of algorithmic mediation are for public discourse and democratic life. Combining this with mathematics adds a powerful analytical dimension, linking humanistic and critical inquiry with the quantitative reasoning that underpins data systems and digital infrastructure.

At Glasgow, this programme sits at an intellectually distinctive intersection. The digital media strand develops your understanding of digital content and information culture through the lens of the arts and humanities. The mathematics strand builds your capacity for rigorous logical and quantitative thinking, covering areas including calculus, algebra, statistics, and discrete mathematics.

The programme includes a year abroad, broadening your perspective and giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution. It runs over four years full-time, leading to an MA (Hons), with a typical entry tariff of 216 points.

Graduates of digital media and information studies combined with mathematics are well placed for careers that sit at the intersection of the technical and the cultural: data journalism, digital heritage, UX research, information architecture, web and content strategy, and roles in cultural institutions that are adapting to the digital environment.
