Digital Marketing and Sport & Physical Education
Digital marketing and physical education is an unusual combination, but one that makes real sense for those whose interests span the commercial digital world and the active, people-centred world of sport and education. Digital marketing is one of the fastest-evolving areas of business, concerned with how organisations reach, engage and retain audiences through online channels, data-driven strategies, content, social media and search. Physical education and sport bring a very different set of concerns: how movement and physical activity are taught and promoted, how sport develops personal and social wellbeing, and how coaching and teaching can be made effective for diverse groups.
At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year full-time programme, which includes a foundation year, develops your competence in both fields. You will study the theory and practice of digital marketing, including consumer behaviour, data analytics, content strategy, social media marketing, search engine optimisation and digital campaign management, alongside the scientific, pedagogical and sociological foundations of physical education and sport. The programme prepares you for professional practice in both areas, and the combination is particularly relevant if you are interested in sports marketing, health promotion, sport management, or education settings where digital communication plays an increasing role.
A sandwich year placement, a year abroad, and a work placement are all available, giving you substantial opportunities to develop real professional experience and to apply your learning in authentic settings.
You will develop practical digital marketing skills alongside the analytical and reflective capabilities needed for effective teaching and coaching. Both disciplines require you to understand audiences and communicate effectively, which gives the combination an internal coherence that strengthens both.
Graduates move into digital marketing roles in sport and related industries, physical education teaching (typically with further training), sports coaching and development, health and fitness management, and community sport. Postgraduate study in either marketing or education is a well-supported next step.
