Digital Design

Digital design is the practice of creating experiences, services, and products for the digital world, and it has become one of the most consequential disciplines of our era. As more of life is mediated through screens, apps, and connected systems, the quality of their design determines whether technology serves people well or poorly. Digital designers think about users first, asking how services can be made accessible, intuitive, and meaningful, and they work across the full range of digital touchpoints, from interfaces and interactions to whole service journeys.

At Kent this three-year full-time programme explores how emerging technologies are transforming the design of services and experiences across healthcare, education, transport, communication, and the built environment. As the course describes it, the focus is consistently on an inclusive mindset that puts people first, which means you will develop skills in user research, interaction design, prototyping, and the ethical dimensions of designing for diverse populations. You will engage with both the creative and the technical dimensions of digital design, developing the versatility to work across the spectrum from visual design to systems thinking.

The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points.

Graduates from digital design programmes work in UX and UI design, service design, product design, interaction design, and digital strategy, in agencies, in-house teams, the public sector, and the growing world of design-led technology startups. The demand for designers who can think systemically about digital services has grown rapidly as organisations across all sectors invest in digital transformation. Many graduates also move into related fields such as design research, accessibility consulting, or design leadership.

Postgraduate study in interaction design, service design, or human-computer interaction provides a route for those who wish to specialise further.
