About this course

Diagnostic radiography is an allied health profession that uses cutting-edge medical imaging technology to produce the diagnostic images on which clinical decision-making depends. Radiographers work with X-ray, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine imaging systems, capturing images of the body that enable clinicians to diagnose fractures, infections, tumours, cardiovascular conditions, and many other health problems. The role combines technical expertise in imaging technology with patient-facing care, requiring both precision and the human sensitivity needed to work with people who may be anxious, in pain, or seriously ill.

At the University of Gloucestershire this three-year full-time programme develops the clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional values needed to work as a diagnostic radiographer. You will study radiographic physics, anatomy and physiology, pathology, imaging techniques, radiation protection, and clinical practice, developing the integrated understanding needed to produce high-quality images while caring appropriately for patients. Practical clinical placements are central to the degree, ensuring that your competence is developed in real healthcare settings under professional supervision.

After completing this programme, graduates are eligible to register with the Health and Care Professions Council and practise as diagnostic radiographers. The typical entry tariff of 136 points reflects the scientific and clinical standard expected.
