About this course

Data science is the discipline of extracting meaning from large and complex datasets, combining statistical analysis, machine learning, programming, and domain knowledge to turn raw information into insight that can inform decisions and drive innovation. It is one of the most in-demand fields in the contemporary economy, as organisations in every sector find themselves generating more data than they know how to use and facing competitive pressure to find people who can do something useful with it.

At the University of Keele, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, making it accessible to students who need additional preparation in mathematics and computing before beginning the main degree. Across the programme you will explore artificial intelligence, machine learning, and analytics in real-world contexts, developing the skills to turn complex information into actionable insights. The programme is designed and taught by leading researchers in the field, ensuring that the content reflects the current state of data science rather than a dated curriculum.

You will build both technical skills in programming and data analysis and the problem-solving and communication abilities that make a data scientist genuinely effective in industry and research environments. Practical projects give you experience of applying your skills to real data challenges.

Data science graduates are sought after in technology, finance, healthcare, retail, logistics, government, and research, among many other sectors. Roles in data analysis, machine learning engineering, business intelligence, and data strategy are all natural destinations. The foundation year makes the programme accessible without sacrificing the technical rigour that employers expect from data science graduates.

Postgraduate study in data science, machine learning, statistics, or a domain-specific application area is an option for those who wish to develop deeper expertise or pursue research careers.

Highly recommend
This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” good transport links make it easy to vis…
