About this course

Data science is the discipline at the intersection of statistics, computing and domain knowledge that is transforming how organisations make decisions and create value. Data scientists collect, process, analyse and interpret large, complex datasets, using statistical modelling, machine learning and visualisation to extract insights that support everything from clinical drug trials and medical diagnosis to financial risk management, supply chain optimisation and personalised digital experiences. As the volume of available data continues to grow and the tools to work with it become more powerful, demand for graduates with genuine data science competency is accelerating across every sector.

At the University of Northumbria at Newcastle you will study data science over four years of full-time study on an extended degree programme that includes both a sandwich year and the opportunity for a year abroad. These professional and international dimensions add substantial real-world experience to your formation and are integrated alongside work placement throughout the programme. You will develop skills in programming, statistical analysis, machine learning, data engineering, data visualisation and the communication of quantitative findings, alongside conceptual understanding of how data science is applied in specific domains including healthcare, finance and e-commerce.
