About this course

Data science and artificial intelligence are reshaping almost every industry, and the organisations at the forefront of that transformation are looking for people who can combine technical fluency with creative thinking and an understanding of how data and algorithms operate in cultural and social contexts. At the University of the Arts London, this degree takes that combination seriously, bringing together rigorous technical training in data science and AI with the critical and creative perspectives that an arts-focused institution is uniquely positioned to offer.

This three-year full-time degree includes a sandwich year with a work placement, giving you substantial professional experience alongside your studies. You will develop skills in programming, statistical modelling, machine learning, data visualisation and AI systems, while also engaging with questions about the ethics, aesthetics and cultural implications of algorithmic systems. You will work with real datasets and build real tools, but you will also be asked to think critically about what data represents, whose interests algorithms serve, and how creative and technical practices can work together to produce more responsible and imaginative outcomes.

Graduates are well placed for roles in data science, machine learning engineering, AI research, creative technology, UX and product design, digital media and the growing field of responsible AI.
