About this course

Cyber security and digital forensics together address two of the most consequential challenges facing organisations in the digital age. Cyber security is concerned with protecting computer systems, networks, and data from attack, compromise, and misuse. Digital forensics applies investigative techniques to digital evidence, recovering, analysing, and presenting data in ways that can support criminal investigations and legal proceedings.

Both fields require a deep understanding of how computer systems and networks function, combined with the analytical rigour to identify vulnerabilities and the practical skills to respond when things go wrong.

At the University of the West of England, Bristol, this three-year full-time programme develops your technical knowledge across both disciplines, preparing you to help organisations manage cyber-attacks and investigate digital evidence effectively. You will study areas including network security, cryptography, malware analysis, penetration testing, incident response, and the recovery and analysis of digital evidence from computers, mobile devices, and cloud environments. The curriculum develops your ability to think like both an attacker and a defender, giving you a realistic understanding of the threat landscape and the tools used to navigate it.

The course includes a sandwich year and work placement, providing direct professional experience in cyber security or digital forensics environments before you graduate.
