About this course

Cyber security and digital forensics is a discipline that addresses two of the most pressing technical challenges of the digital age. Cyber security is concerned with protecting computer systems, networks, and data from attack, disruption, and unauthorised access; digital forensics is the science of recovering, examining, and presenting digital evidence in legal and investigative contexts. Together they form a degree with both defensive and investigative dimensions, preparing you to understand how digital systems are exploited and how that exploitation can be prevented, detected, and proven.

At Anglia Ruskin you will study this five-year full-time programme, which includes combinations of placement and foundation year options. The extended duration provides more time to develop both theoretical depth and practical capability in two demanding technical areas. You will study the principles of network security, cryptography, ethical hacking, vulnerability assessment, digital evidence acquisition and analysis, forensic tools and techniques, and the legal and ethical frameworks governing both security practice and digital investigation.

The programme develops technical skills in both cyber security and forensics alongside the professional and analytical capabilities that employers in both sectors value.

Cyber security and digital forensics graduates are in growing demand as organisations, governments, and law enforcement agencies recognise the scale and sophistication of digital threats. Roles include cyber security analyst, security engineer, penetration tester, digital forensic investigator, incident response specialist, and information security consultant. Employers span financial services, technology companies, government agencies, policing, the defence sector, healthcare, and any large organisation that holds and processes sensitive data.
