Culture, Heritage and Archaeology

Culture, heritage, and archaeology are fields concerned with how human societies make, preserve, and interpret the traces of the past, and with the values, practices, and institutions through which communities maintain a relationship with their history. Archaeology investigates the material remains left by human activity, from prehistoric settlements to post-medieval industrial sites, using a combination of fieldwork, scientific analysis, and historical interpretation. Heritage studies examines how objects, sites, landscapes, and traditions are identified, managed, and presented to the public, raising important questions about whose past is valued and who gets to tell its story.
