Creative Computing with Foundation

Creative computing sits at the intersection of technology and imagination, combining the rigour of computer science with the creativity of digital arts, games, interactive media and design. It is a field that has expanded rapidly as digital technologies have become central to culture, entertainment, communication and business, and the people who can work fluently across technical and creative dimensions are in growing demand. At the University of Westminster this four-year programme, which includes a foundation element, introduces you to the broad landscape of creative computing and then develops your skills in depth.

You will study the fundamentals of programming, software development and systems alongside creative disciplines including interactive design, games development, digital media and computer graphics. The programme is designed to develop both your technical capability and your creative thinking, recognising that the most interesting work in this field tends to happen when these are not treated as separate concerns. A sandwich year gives you the opportunity to work in industry for a substantial period before completing your degree, and work placements and a year abroad are also built into the structure, providing a range of opportunities to develop professionally and to test your skills in real contexts.

Graduates of creative computing are well placed for careers in games development, interactive media, UX and interface design, digital arts and creative technology, software development with a focus on creative applications and the expanding world of virtual and augmented reality. The technology industry more broadly values graduates who can combine technical depth with creative and design sensibility, and that combination is what this programme is built around. Some graduates go on to postgraduate study in areas such as human-computer interaction, games design, digital arts or computer science, deepening their specialism or moving into research.
