About this course

Creative computing sits at a genuinely interesting intersection, combining the technical foundations of computer science with the creative and design thinking that produces compelling digital experiences, interactive media and innovative applications. As computing has become embedded in every aspect of creative and cultural life, from game design and interactive installations to generative art and digital storytelling, there is growing demand for graduates who can work fluently across both the technical and creative dimensions of digital practice. At the University of Leicester, this four-year programme includes a foundation year designed for students who want to study computing but do not yet have the traditional entry requirements, with automatic progression onto year one of a computing degree on successful completion.

You will develop core computing skills including programming, software engineering and algorithm design, alongside the creative and design perspectives that distinguish creative computing from a purely technical programme. The foundation year builds the mathematical and scientific knowledge you need to succeed at degree level, and the subsequent years allow you to develop genuine technical depth alongside your creative practice. The combination of computational thinking and creative application prepares you to work on projects that engage users, produce aesthetic experiences and solve problems in contexts where technology and human culture meet.

Graduates of creative computing programmes move into careers across the technology and creative industries.
