Construction Project Management with Foundation Year

Construction project management is the discipline that turns architectural and engineering ambitions into finished buildings. Project managers in the construction industry are responsible for coordinating the full delivery process, from resource allocation, programme planning and budget management through to managing contractor relationships, site safety and stakeholder communication. At the University of Salford, this four-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year in professional placement and a work placement, giving you substantial practical experience alongside your academic study. The course begins with a foundation pathway that builds your grounding in construction technology, surveying and design techniques, as well as the academic study skills you will need to succeed at degree level. As you progress through the programme, you will develop expertise in project planning, procurement, contract administration, health and safety, sustainability and the digital tools that now underpin construction delivery.

The programme is designed to prepare you for professional practice in an industry that is evolving rapidly, with increasing adoption of building information modelling, off-site construction and environmental performance standards.

Construction project management graduates are in demand across contractors, consultancies, client organisations and public sector bodies. Many go on to work as project managers, site managers, contracts managers and commercial managers, progressing into senior leadership roles as they gain experience. The programme provides a strong foundation for professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Building and related bodies.

Postgraduate study in construction management, project management or quantity surveying is also an option for those who want to specialise further or move into consultancy or academic roles.
