Construction Project Management with foundation year

Construction project management is the discipline that brings order, accountability and leadership to one of the most complex activities in the built environment: delivering a construction project on time, within budget and to the required standard of quality and safety. Construction projects involve multiple contractors, consultants and clients, large capital investments, regulatory compliance obligations and significant risks from weather, supply chain disruption, ground conditions and design changes. At Coventry University, this four-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year, a work placement and a year abroad. The sandwich and placement elements give you substantial professional experience in project management roles within construction, civil engineering or utilities sectors, where you will work on real projects and develop the practical skills and professional confidence that employers value. The year abroad adds an international dimension, relevant in a construction industry that is increasingly global in its procurement, workforce and technology.

You will study construction technology, project planning and scheduling, cost management, procurement, contract law, risk management, sustainability, leadership and the use of digital tools including building information modelling. The programme develops both technical knowledge of construction and the management and leadership capabilities needed to coordinate complex projects and teams.

Graduates go on to careers in construction project management, site management, contracts management, quantity surveying, facilities management and infrastructure delivery across both public and private sectors. Professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Building or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is a common professional development route. Further study in construction management or project management is available for those who want to develop their expertise.
