Construction management is the discipline that brings together the technical, financial, and human dimensions of delivering built environment projects. Building anything of scale, from a housing development to a hospital, a railway, or a city centre regeneration project, requires people who can manage budgets, coordinate contractors, ensure safety, monitor quality, and keep complex programmes on track across months or years of work. As the current course description captures, this degree develops management skills that span the entire construction process, from financial planning and technical feasibility through site safety and personnel management to the long-term sustainability of the structures being built.

This three-year full-time programme at the University of Portsmouth includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, making it one of the most practically and internationally enriched construction management programmes available. The sandwich and placement years provide sustained professional experience in the construction industry during your studies, giving you a realistic understanding of how projects are managed and making you substantially more employable on graduation. The year abroad adds an international perspective to this formation, exposing you to how construction management is practised in different countries and markets.

With a typical tariff of 104 points, the programme is accessible to motivated students with an interest in the built environment.

You will study project management, quantity surveying and cost control, contract law, health and safety, sustainable construction, digital construction technologies, and the leadership and communication skills that managing construction teams and client relationships requires.
