About this course

Conservation biology and human geography is a combination that reflects how inseparable environmental and human questions have become. Conservation biology is concerned with understanding and protecting biodiversity, examining how ecosystems function, how species populations are maintained or decline, and what interventions can reverse environmental degradation. Human geography examines the relationships between people, places, and environments, asking how human activity shapes the natural world and how physical and social geographies intersect.

The two disciplines together provide an unusually complete framework for understanding environmental challenges and the human dimensions of responding to them.

At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme combines these two perspectives, developing your understanding of both the ecological foundations of conservation and the social, cultural, and political contexts in which conservation happens. You will investigate human-environment relationships across contexts including tourism, urban environments, small islands, and natural hazard management, developing both scientific and social scientific analytical skills. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you substantial professional and international experience before graduation.

With a typical entry tariff of 88 UCAS points, the programme is accessible to students with strong scientific and geographical interests.

Graduates from conservation biology and human geography programmes are well placed for careers in environmental consultancy, conservation organisations, NGOs, government environmental agencies, international development, national parks and nature reserves, urban sustainability, and research roles.
