About this course

Computing is the discipline that underpins almost every aspect of modern life, from the software running on your phone to the infrastructure of global banking, healthcare, and logistics. It encompasses programming and software development, algorithms and data structures, computer systems and networks, databases, artificial intelligence, and the design of interfaces between humans and machines. Developing genuine competence in computing requires both theoretical understanding and practical skill, and the two reinforce each other: knowing why algorithms work the way they do makes you a more effective programmer, and building real systems teaches you things about theory that classroom study alone cannot.

At the University of Buckingham, this three-year programme is designed for students who wish to study computing at undergraduate level but whose prior academic qualifications are non-standard or who would benefit from a structured introduction to university-level study. The integrated foundation element provides that foundation, building the mathematical and computational thinking that the full degree requires before you progress into the main programme. You will develop skills in programming, systems design, problem-solving, and the practical application of computing techniques, working on projects that build your portfolio alongside your theoretical understanding.

Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in computing, data science, cybersecurity, or related fields, building on the foundation the undergraduate degree provides.
