About this course

Cybersecurity sits at the intersection of computer science, applied mathematics, and the very human problem of trust. As digital infrastructure underpins almost every aspect of modern life, from healthcare records and financial systems to energy grids and communications, the discipline of protecting that infrastructure has become one of the most strategically important fields in technology. Cybersecurity professionals do not simply defend against attacks; they design systems that are resilient by construction, reason about adversarial behaviour, and respond when defences are breached.

This five-year integrated Master's degree at the University of Aberdeen combines a rigorous four-year BSc in Computing Science with an additional year of postgraduate-level study focused on cybersecurity. Across the programme you will build strong foundations in computing, including algorithms, programming, networks, operating systems, and software engineering, before deepening your expertise in security-specific areas such as cryptography, network security, secure systems design, and threat analysis. The course includes a year abroad, broadening your perspective and giving you experience of computing and security practice in an international setting.
