About this course

Computer systems engineering sits at the boundary between hardware and software, asking how physical electronic systems can be designed, programmed, and optimised to perform the computational tasks the modern world depends on. Unlike pure computer science, which tends to focus on algorithms and software, or pure electronic engineering, which focuses on circuits and signals, computer systems engineering brings both together. You will study how processors are designed and built, how software interacts with hardware at the lowest levels, and how to engineer embedded systems, from the microcontrollers in consumer devices to the sophisticated control systems in vehicles, medical equipment, and industrial machinery.

At the University of East Anglia, this three-year full-time programme gives you a rigorous grounding in both the electronic and computational dimensions of the discipline. You will study digital electronics, computer architecture, operating systems, embedded programming, real-time systems, and signal processing, developing the ability to work across the hardware-software boundary with confidence.
