About this course

Computer science is the study of computation in all its forms, from the mathematical theory that defines what can and cannot be computed to the practical engineering of software systems that underpin the digital world. It encompasses programming, algorithms and data structures, operating systems, networks, databases, software engineering, artificial intelligence and much more, and its graduates are among the most versatile and sought-after in the modern economy. At Brunel University London, this three-year full-time BSc includes a foundation year, giving students who need additional preparation the opportunity to build the mathematical and computational foundations before progressing into the full degree.

You will develop the ability to specify, design, code, modify and test different types of software, from web-based systems to mobile solutions, using contemporary programming paradigms and commercial-grade development environments and database tools. The programme builds your understanding of how software systems work and how to design them to meet real business needs, alongside the theoretical knowledge of computer science that allows you to reason about algorithms, complexity and the limits of computation. Computer science graduates work across virtually every sector that relies on digital systems, which in practice means almost everywhere.
