About this course

Computer science with artificial intelligence is a degree that combines the fundamental principles of computing with one of the most rapidly advancing and consequential fields in technology. Computer science provides the theoretical and engineering foundations: algorithms, data structures, software systems, and the mathematics that underlies computation. Artificial intelligence builds on those foundations to develop systems that can process language, recognise images, learn from data, make predictions, and automate tasks that once required human intelligence.

The combination is at the forefront of technological change across every sector of the economy.

At Brunel University London, this four-year full-time programme develops your understanding of how large amounts of data can be handled efficiently and how AI techniques can extract meaning from that data to support better decisions. You will study the core of computer science alongside machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision, and the ethical dimensions of AI systems in practice. A placement year gives you direct professional experience in a technology company or organisation using AI, which is invaluable both for your development and for your employability.

A foundation year is available for students who need to build their mathematical and computational foundations before entering the main programme. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points.

Graduates of computer science with AI programmes are in exceptional demand. Machine learning engineer, data scientist, AI researcher, software engineer with AI specialism, and technology consultant are among the most common career destinations. Finance, healthcare, retail, defence, gaming, logistics, and virtually every other sector is investing in AI capability and needs graduates who understand both its technical foundations and its practical applications.

Many graduates also pursue postgraduate research in AI, machine learning, or data science, contributing to a rapidly evolving field.

Genuinely worthwhile
This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the career fair connections with top tech employers are genuinely valuable. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” good trans…

A great decision
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: you finish with a portfolio that recruiters take seriously. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” local cost of living is manageable if yo…
