About this course

Computer science and geography is an unusual combination that reflects the growing importance of spatial thinking and data analysis in understanding and managing complex real-world systems. Computer science provides the technical and theoretical foundations for building software, analysing data, and understanding computation. Geography brings a spatial and environmental perspective, concerned with the distribution of phenomena across the Earth's surface, the physical and human processes that shape landscapes and communities, and the analytical tools that allow geographers to understand and represent those processes.

At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year that builds the academic skills and foundational knowledge needed to succeed in the main degree. The computer science strand is broad and innovative, covering networks, robotics, mobile computing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality, reflecting the subject's extraordinary versatility. The geography component develops your understanding of both physical and human geography alongside the mapping and analytical tools, including GIS and remote sensing, that are increasingly essential to professional geographical work.

A sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities are all built into the programme, giving you substantial professional and international experience. The typical entry tariff of 88 points reflects the accessible character of the programme.

You will develop both the programming and technical capabilities of computer science and the analytical and spatial reasoning of geography, a combination that is valuable in a range of data-rich professional environments.

Graduates pursue careers in GIS, data science, environmental technology, urban planning, logistics, public health analytics, and the technology sector more broadly. Postgraduate study in data science, GIS, computer science, or environmental informatics is also a well-established route.
