About this course

Computer science at Oxford is among the most intellectually demanding undergraduate degrees in the discipline anywhere in the world. The subject is concerned with the mathematical and logical foundations of computation, the design and analysis of algorithms, the principles underlying programming languages and operating systems, and the engineering of software and hardware systems at every level of abstraction. Oxford's approach is distinctive in its emphasis on mathematical rigour and theoretical depth, treating computer science as a branch of mathematics as much as an engineering discipline, and developing in graduates the kind of foundational understanding that allows them to work at the frontier of the field rather than simply applying existing tools.

You can complete this programme in either three or four years of full-time study, with the fourth year offering the opportunity for more advanced and specialised work leading to the award of a master's level qualification alongside the bachelor's degree.
