About this course

Computer science with artificial intelligence brings together the foundational principles of computing with a focused specialisation in one of the most rapidly developing areas of technology. Computer science encompasses the study of algorithms, data structures, programming, software engineering, computer architecture and the theoretical underpinnings of computation. Artificial intelligence adds to this the study of how computational systems can learn from data, reason under uncertainty, process natural language, recognise patterns and make decisions in ways that resemble human intelligence.

At Nottingham Trent University, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country and experience computing and AI education in a different context. You will study programming in multiple languages, software development methodologies, machine learning, neural networks, computer vision, data mining and the mathematical foundations that underpin AI systems, building from the core principles of computing through to the applied skills needed to develop and deploy intelligent systems. The programme develops both technical depth and the capacity to think critically about what AI systems can and cannot do.

Graduates with expertise in computer science and artificial intelligence are among the most sought-after in the graduate market. Technology companies, financial services, healthcare, retail, logistics, manufacturing and the public sector all have growing demand for people who can design, build and work with AI systems. Roles in machine learning engineering, data science, software development, AI research, robotics and natural language processing are all well-established graduate paths.

Postgraduate study in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science or computer science provides a route for those who wish to develop research-level expertise or specialise in a particular application of AI.
