Law and business are rarely far apart, and Common Law combined with Business and Management at the University of Glasgow gives you a rigorous understanding of both disciplines over four years of full-time study. The Common Law LLB follows the English common law tradition rather than Scots law, which means it is not accredited by the Law Society of Scotland and is not intended for students who wish to practise law in Scotland. It is, however, an intellectually demanding qualification that gives you a thorough grounding in legal reasoning, contract, tort, public law, and the principles that underpin legal systems across much of the world.

Alongside the law component, you will study the theory and practice of managing organisations, covering strategy, finance, marketing, operations, and organisational behaviour. The interplay between these two fields is genuinely productive: understanding contracts helps you read commercial agreements more critically, and understanding business helps you appreciate why legal rules are drafted as they are. The year abroad is built into the programme, giving you the chance to study in another country and broaden your perspective on how law and commerce operate in different jurisdictions.
